Great night by the river and as there was only one other tent in the campsite we hoped we could pay and get a canoe which we could launch from right near the van :) Luckily the office was open and we managed to pay for the campsite – the first site we have paid for in 18 nights !!!!!
We packed the water proof barrel with cameras, books, drink etc and set off from the Campsite “Les Osiers” at Montbrun and set off 10 for the 13 km. Four hour trip to St Chely du Tarn but as we were not being picked up to 5 we were in no hurry :)
We had the most fantastic day in the deep gorges of the Tarn,we had to limpo under a low bridge,go over a couple of steep weirs (without falling in !!! ) went down many fast shallow bumpy sections – only going over once when we hit another canoe already over and stuck in some rocks !!! but a drift down the river for 50 metres and we managed to get back aboard :) We had a almond croissant break and stopped for a meal at Ste Enimie .
We arrived at Chely just before 5 having seen loads of fish what looked like barbell, chub and dace,we even saw a snake swimming across the river,so a top top day and we are knackered now and the scariest part of the day was the trip back to the campsite flat out on the mountain road in a car towing a trailer !!!
So thats our holiday over and what a great time we had – so many adventures :) We have made it back to the bottom of the Puy de Dome for our last night in France but this time the car park is full of campers from all over Europe – the only disappointment was not making 40 kts in La Franqui but cant win,um all !!!!
Can,t wait to get our canoe :)
